As you know, the Bulkley Valley Research Centre (BVRC) is hosting a Northern Conference for Wildfire Resilience April 24-26 in Burns Lake. With generous sponsorship from BC’s Ministry of Forests, BC’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Forest Industry, and Community Forests, this working conference will launch a northern initiative to help participants strengthen partnerships, shift fuels and forest practices, understand the role of policy, and move to a new planning paradigm that considers our current state, the role of fire, and future wildfire resilience.
As part of the conference, the Research Centre is hosting a free community evening session on Thursday April 25 at The Gathering Place. The theme of the evening is ‘Advancing Resilience in the Nadina Forest District‘. There will be a panel discussion followed by a moderated Q & A session. Panel members include BC Wildfire Service, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Burns Lake and Babine Lake Community Forests, and Research Scientists. The evening session is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the proceedings of the conference as well as what can be done to improve community and forest resilience.
