OPEN HOUSE
Implementation of Phase 1 of Landscape Fire Management
Burns Lake Community Forest has been implementing Phase 1 of its Landscape Fire Management report prepared by B.A Blackwell & Associates. Phase 1 is the area south of town and directly across Burns Lake. Harvest commenced in the fall of 2019 and is planned for completion late summer 2020. As of Spring 2020, hazard abatement piling and Guyishton Forestry Road Right of Way brushing and thinning have been completed.
Supported by Shifting Mosaic Consulting (Landscape Prescribed Fire Specialists), in collaboration with local FLNRORD and BC Wildfire Services, Burns Lake Community Forest will be re-introducing prescribed fire on the land base. This is part and parcel of ensuring that our fire management efforts have a lasting effect.
The forests surrounding our communities are fire regenerated and fire-maintained ecosystems. Our ability to integrate fire back on to the landscape will not only help support our community protection efforts, but also bring back ecosystem functions and attributes that have been very effectively suppressed for many years.
We have been communicating the progress of this project extensively since mid to late 2018, as we progress through different phases of operations, we want to invite everyone in the community and surrounding areas to our Prescribed Fire Plan Open House
Burns Lake Community Forest will host an Information session on September 9th, 2020 at the Community Forest Office located at 153 Francois Lake Dr, Burns Lake from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.
This is a great space to maintain and observe physical distance measures and other provincial health authority directives associated with COVID-19, therefor, I really encourage our community to attend.
There will be lots of information and opportunity to ask questions, get informed, and learn about the Prescribed Fire Plan.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
