2025 Summer Student OPPORTUNITY – Job Title: Summer Student-Natural Resource Technician
Burns Lake Community Forest Ltd. (BLCF) is one of the largest community forests in the province of B.C. with one of the first Licenses issued under an approximate 20,000-hectare community forest pilot project. The Comfor agreement area now consists of 92,278.8 hectares. We are seeking a student for a summer employment opportunity in the natural resources sector.

May 2025 to August 2025 (start & end dates negotiable)

Job Description:
This position will provide exposure to both the office and field components of area base tenure management. BLCF has a full-scale operational program for implementation providing meaningful opportunities in the many areas of forest practices such as Silviculture, Harvesting, Road Maintenance, Layout & Development as well as the application of technology such as IPAD, Drones etc. in forest measurements, compliance and auditing. BLCF is currently completing multiple projects that are in different phases. – an access management project, a recreational development/recreational site expansion project, a forest enhancement for fire mitigation project, a pre commercial thinning trail and a stream assessment project.
Applicants MUST be registered in an accredited program in Natural Resources or Environmental Sciences.
Required Skills:
A basic understanding of harvesting and silviculture systems.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to build effective long-term relationships with colleagues and to work cooperatively as part of a team-based organization.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage individual performance by setting goals and standards, evaluating performance and self-correcting where applicable.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and ingenuity in a demanding environment and respond effectively to emerging priorities and re-prioritize work accordingly.
Previous experience with field work in remote locations is desirable.
Additional Information:
This position will require you to provide your own field gear including a cruiser vest, appropriate footwear and rain gear. Unrestricted Class 4 or 5 BC Driver’s License is preferred (New driver permits may be considered)
A copy of your driver’s abstract from ICBC will be required at the start.
